Community and Family Micro Farms
Calamand House
Some people are producing spirulina on a small scale for self-sufficiency or for a home grown business. In developing world villages spirulina is being grown to improve the health of undernourished children and for extra income on the local economy.

Philippe and Estelle Calamand's greenhouses in the South of France. After several years experience working at spirulina farms around the world, Philippe and Estelle built a greenhouse farm at their homestead. They produce about thirty 100 gram packages per day for four months in the summer. Local demand for his Spirulina La Capitelle noodles exceeds capacity.

Jourdan Greenhouse
Jean-Paul Jourdan's microfarm in the South of France. At his spirulina greenhouse facility in September 1999 in Mialet, Jean-Paul Jourdan shows how he grows, harvests and dries spirulina, producing a tasty finished food product.

For many years, Jean-Paul has been developing small scale spirulina projects in Europe and Africa. In his practical manual (in French) he describes how to cultivate spirulina on a family scale.
